Following is a list of SCCU's board of directors. Each director is elected or appointed to a 3 year term at our Annual General Meeting in April of each year. There is one board member from each of the six Peer Groups, and one Credit Union Central of BC Appointee.
Anthony Clare, Chairperson Director Since: 2002 Director, Summerland & District Credit Union Peer Group 2 | My name is Tony Clare. I was born in England and have lived in Summerland for thirty one years. I am happily married and have three sons, one in management at the Fairmont Water Hotel, one a manager in the computer business in Vancouver and one managing a charity company in Kelowna.
I am a dentist, practicing now for thirty one years in Summerland. I am a member of the B.C. Forensic Odontology Response Team for mass disasters. My hobbies include golf, reading, driving a 1961 sports car and being a member of various professional and service organizations. I also served on a school board for eight years.
I have been on the Board of Summerland and District Credit Union for over twenty one years, having served on all committees during that time. I have been Board Chair for the last six years.
My interest in Stabilization Central was awakened following their fall meeting in Kelowna, which I attended for an information luncheon. When a vacancy to the Board for a member from a smaller credit union was announced, I was immediately interested. I shall be retiring soon and will have time to devote to this position.
Stabilization Central performs a very necessary and important function and I can bring twenty two years of experience in the system to the Board. I ask for your support in my candidacy. |

Brian Bentley, Vice Chairperson Director Since: 2003 Chief Executive Officer, Integris Credit Union Peer Group 1 | I have been a Director since 2003 and feel strongly that I have worked through a steep learning curve around the issues, opportunities and future for Stabilization Central. I feel confident that I am able to contribute positively to the evolution of Stabilization Central in the changing financial landscape and assist in the development and implementation of its new vision.
My association with the credit union system goes back over 20 years and has equipped me to knowledgeably and fairly represent the interests of all credit unions. Also, I have worked closely with Stabilization Central, when as CEO of Prince George Savings we were recovering from an economic downturn. This experience underscores the value of good risk management practices, leaving me with the conviction that a strong Stabilization function in the financial industry is essential.
Additionally, I draw on my broad range of experiences from the 6 years that I operated my own business, along with the 34 years that I worked within the financial community.

Douglas Lang Director Since: 2007 Director, Coastal Community Credit Union Peer Group 4 | I have had the privilege of being a credit union director for the past 20 years, 14 years of which, I served as President and Chair of the Evergreen Savings Credit Union Board. It has been a most rewarding experience. During my tenure with Evergreen Savings, our credit union saw major changes including growing from one branch in Campbell River to nine branches covering all major markets in the North Central Vancouver Island region. One of my main goals as a director and president was to ensure that the credit union maintained financial stability even during periods of economic hardship. To accomplish this, I worked with management to implement a strategic planning process. The result of this effort has been a profitable and growing credit union. During the years that I was the president, Evergreen Savings evolved from a precarious financial position in the early 1990’s to one of the most financially secure credit unions in the province today. Prior to my retirement I was employed with the City of Campbell River for 37 years, primarily in the Finance Department and now, as Corporate Services Director/Treasurer, managing five departments (Legislative Services, Information Services, Bylaw Enforcement/Property Services, Materials Management, and Financial Services) of the municipality. During my career, I was a member of the CUPE Local 623 for several years, serving on the executive, the bargaining committee and as treasurer of the union. Previous work experience includes 5 years with Scotiabank, starting as a teller and working up into management within a large branch. I hold a professional accounting degree as a Certified General Accountant (CGA). My financial background and experience is an asset in my role as director. The financial industry is going through major changes requiring the credit union to have the leadership of experienced directors with financial knowledge to ensure it remains strong and viable. I am a graduate of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program. ESCU Committees Currently Serving On: - Board Chair (ex-officio on all Committees)
- Mergers & Alliances Committee
- Joint Steering Committee
